This was said to be a combination of TNTS (which was not a modeling competition) and TMW/TNTM (Which were). So really, this competition, like so many people have suggested, should have a new set of standards so the competitors know how judging will work out properly.
TNTS, with its massive emphasis on writing, set up guidelines and templates to lead competitors on their ways. One good example would be the audition assignment (assignment 7? dont remember)... it could have easily gone awry, but the judges set a proper rubric for the competitors to follow and gave them enough space for personal interpretation as well. Just ask Kiti or any of the other TNTS contestants and you'll see that they knew exactly what to do. I believe this competition is lacking that, there always seems to be misinterpretation every week, and I guess the judges just have to be more clear.
Oh... and if you want a proper competition, TMW2 will clearly take the crown.

That's true. I usually have at least one question every week as to what I'm supposed to be doing and what would or wouldn't be acceptable. Even then, it seems that most of the time my ideas on the assignments don't always mesh with what the judges are looking for (but then again, I have a very strange mind that's more used to working with abstract concepts than with visual realisations of concepts; it could be just me).

Hehe - I did notice that 2 judges tend to give similar scores and then a 3rd judge gives a completely different one. Not always mind you - just noticable enough though.
But there will always be more of these competitions and I definately would try out again with another character... maybe if I bought factions, NF and Eotn
I'll post my outtakes later - I have some with Ao's ritualist too! and Scarlet who I bumped into in Lions Arch ^^

I really LOVE that first one .. such a balanced pic, such an eye for detail. It's gracious, the colours are subtle and the flower in the corner adds so much to it!

I liked that one until my friend who was round at my house looked at it and thought they'd had their lower bodies chopped off. It suddenly lost its romantic flair for me
I also think the judges would have found the flower too distracting - like the bush in my actual submission. As its right in the foreground and so eye-catching.
But I like the picture for what it is - competitin and assignment aside, I found the Amnoon Oasis to be very beautiful indeed!

I agree, the judges would have torn the flower apart, but I still think it's a great picture

Assignment 5 outtake time!
"Stop throwing things at me, you damned squirrel!"
Deus feels the wrath of Foamy's nuts
"If there's one thing I hate more than squirrels, it's mosquitos..."
Next time, bring bug spray!
"Super Sentai eat your heart out! Hiiii-YAH!"
Deus practices his moves for the new series of Mighty Morphin' Power Mesmers
"Could you run that by me again? I'm not sure I understood you the first time."
Deus wonders what the director's been smoking and whether it's linked to the purple mist in the area
Omake ending!
"I heard you were shooting here this week... You and I still have something to talk about!"
And this week's surprise guest is...!
"I wasn't expecting to see you here... I, er, um, er, could you excuse me for just one moment?"
Deus exercises the better part of valour - and this time I don't blame him
And just for fun, here's my writeup for this assignment
Quote:
"The powers of Mystery...who among you would challenge these forces?"
Deus would. Although this time, after getting here, he's starting to wish that he hadn't.
As a Mesmer, Deus is used to spending hours carefully planning out which skills he will need for each engagement before venturing out into the wilds, ensuring that he is properly prepared well in advance. He prides himself on knowing all that can be known (and most of all the rest), so being confronted by a mysterious haze that makes looking ahead difficult is something he finds disturbing, to say the least.
This region of the forest is relatively unknown, even to the local Kurzicks, and few who venture into the misty thickets here ever return. Some say the misty groves are prowled by Lyssa's most fearsome demons that tear unwary adventurers limb from limb, while others believe the area is inhabited by playful forest spirits that frolic and flutter among the hardwoods.
Beneath the boughs, the shadows dance and sing unintelligible phrases of otherworldy tunes; and childlike laughter can be heard echoing through the still air. Although whatever the mysterious creatures that dwell in the branches are, they clearly do not wish to be seen; whenever Deus turns to confront one of the fleeting shadows it disappears, only to reappear elsewhere and laugh at him again. Looking around nervously like a Centaur caught in the headlights, Deus wonders: are these creatures maliciously hunting him, or merely playing with him mischievously? Until he uncovers the mysteries of the forest and the identities of the strange creatures watching him, he cannot say for sure.

Just a fun-pic
... not a contestant and no real ambition to become one.
But it seems that taking screenshots is a lot of fun, and I enjoyed taking this as well
Dancing shadows ... silent laughter ... These forests seem no longer safe for travelers
I DARE you to show yourselves and step into the Light

Here is my attempt for assignment 5! lol
I wanted to use a color that the others didn't, so I chose grey (the armor is actually silver but I'm too lazy to change it, who will notice? haha I guess I could use blue now but I'm too lazy to dye it again )
Grey can mean sorrow or grief, so that's what I was trying to portray here.
And the outtakes:
I like this shot but pink means love and things like that, and I didn't see it here. lol
This could have been pink or purple but I still don't see any meanings. hehe
Again, nice outtakes Deus! I look forward to those as much as everyone's submissions. lol I take it you watched Power Rangers as a kid? Ah, the memories, I did too. *digs out my old collection* They never did top the original. haha

Yup - and I still do. Season 16 starts in a coupla weeks and it'll be featuring the first ever purple ranger. Season 12 has been the best so far though, I think (they brought back Tommy from seasons 1-5). But enough of me being a hopeless fanboy
In your grey shot I see more lethargy than sorrow/grief. Though that also goes with the grey theme in my opinion

Hahaha! Looks like Scarlet and Deus studied under the same sensei. Also, it's a bit of a funny coincidence that we both used the same armor set for this assignment, don't you think?

Oh my. I remember Tommy. Thats hilarious they brought him back. And very interesting about the Purple ranger. I hope it doesn't turn totally bomb like TNMT did when they introduced the girl turtle.
There have been no negative comments this week about judging. I sincerely hope that we've solved the problem with changing our way of judging. The scores out of 10 are definitely easier to understand IMO.

Hey I was just gonna comment about the scoring I wanted to say it looks like u guys got a smoother system in place or maybe are hashing it out more clearly cuz ya no extreme gaps with the scores and I didn't want that to go unnoticed - I'd much rather give praise than criticism and being that I gave it earlier I wanted u to know that your hard work as judges didn't go unnoticed! Way to go judges - looks like your hitting your groove now too
/cheer!

I think I prefer the new method of judging. It makes it easier to judge each submission for what it is (and the qualities displayed in it) rather than the much more difficult task of comparing each one to all the others. Great call, judges!
*applauds*

I doubt it'll bomb. The franchise is backed by Disney these days, so it's much more mainstream and has a lot more funding available. The purple ranger in the new season should go over very well too, if the source footage is anything to go on.
Source footage of the purple ranger - expect a different actor and morph sequence for Power Rangers as it'll all be westernised, but the fight sequences will be largely untouched.
Deus could still kick that guy's rear end anyway

I'm sorry to see you go Ember and I hope you feel better. I myself suffer from insomnia and it is just terrible to be tired and unable to sleep. Doctors have suggested that my sleeping habits are not that good and I need to improve my sleep hygiene, as in... NO TV in the room!!! No reading in bed!! and basically the bedroom is just for sleep and well you know (fun). My bedroom is like a subway station. We are animal lovers and there is constant action, movement, chasing, growling, purring, scratching.... as we watch TV before we go to sleep. Beh.
I do hope you get better and continue to post screen shots.
Grats Deus, I really loved your shot. Great pose and great background, and thanks for sharing your story. I realize in this competition writing does not have a huge weight, but personally, I always wonder what did people write as an explanation to their shots. When I was in PNTM I always enjoyed the stories / explanations as much as the screenshots, it helped compliment and bring together the assignment.
I also wanted to give the judges a thumbs up on the scoring and judging this week, it seemed more cohesive. Keep it up.
Good Luck to the 5 left, go kick some screenie butt!!
